The La Chance Mine Mystery

A weary prospector battles the bitter cold and relentless wind as he paddles a rickety canoe across the treacherous Lac Tremblant, desperate to reach his gold mine at La Chance. The lake is a shifting maze of hidden rocks and fickle ice, making every stroke a gamble, while the surrounding wilderness seems to conspire against any easy return. When he finally arrives at the Halfway stables, expecting a fresh horse and a warm welcome, he finds only a lone foreman, a dusty newspaper, and an unsettling silence. The missing team of horses and the absence of any other workers hint at something amiss beyond the ordinary hardships of mining life. As the night draws in, the protagonist must decide whether to press on toward La Chance or unravel the mystery that now shadows his once‑familiar route.
