A young scholar leaves his provincial home for a modern academy, where he discovers subjects like geometry, chemistry and Western medicine that clash with the traditional teachings of his upbringing. The curriculum opens his eyes to a world of scientific ideas and foreign influence, yet he feels torn between the expectations of his family and the unsettling promise of progress. Amid lectures and film reels of current events, he watches the brutal realities of war and begins to question the purpose of knowledge that serves only the powerful.

Motivated by this inner conflict, he joins a small circle of fellow students determined to spark cultural renewal. Together they plan a new literary journal, hoping to awaken a stagnant society, but face financial strain and an unsettling sense of isolation. Their early attempts at writing become raw, impassioned cries—first manifested in the unsettling diary of a “madman”—signaling the birth of a voice that will challenge complacency and give voice to the unheard.
