A bright‑eyed girl from India arrives at Miss Minchin’s boarding school in London, clutching her beloved doll and wrapped in a wardrobe of silk, velvet and lace. Her father, hoping the cold English climate will keep her healthy, showers her with fine clothes and the promise of a comfortable future. Yet the grand corridors and the stern, watchful eyes of Miss Minchin feel far from the warm bungalow Sara remembers.
At first Sara is treated as the school’s prized pupil, leading processions and dazzling visitors with her poise and imagination. She spends hours daydreaming, sharing stories of her father and the far‑off land she left behind. Beneath the glittering surface, however, a quiet unease begins to grow as Sara learns what it truly means to be a “young lady” in Miss Minchin’s world.
