A bright, free‑spirited girl roams the woodlands along the river later named the James, her laughter echoing among the trees. As the cherished daughter of Chief Powhatan, she knows the songs of birds, the secrets of hidden nests, and the ways of the wild that surround her tribe. Her playful curiosity and gentle nature make her a beloved figure among the warriors and elders alike.
Across the sea, a restless English youth dreams of glory on the battlefield. Having already fought in France, Flanders and the Turkish wars, he carries the scars and stories of distant conflicts. Tired of imagined skirmishes, he sets out once more, seeking true adventure beyond the familiar hills of his homeland.
When the two worlds finally converge, the spirited native girl and the battle‑hardened captain find themselves drawn together by wonder and need. Their early encounters spark a fragile friendship that hints at both promise and peril, as each learns the language of the other’s world while the new colony teeters on the edge of uncertainty.
