In a cramped tenement of Sault aux Belœuil, two tireless mechanics, Pierre and Baptiste, juggle the demands of large families and relentless work. When a puzzling shortfall appears in the accounts of a bustling wholesale firm, the duo sees an opportunity and maps out a daring night‑time burglary of the establishment’s massive safe on St. Mark Street. Their plan is simple on the surface, but the stakes rise as they prepare to breach a vault that guards not only cash but the very paperwork that could expose them.
Meanwhile, the head book‑keeper, frustrated by a missing ledger page, decides to investigate the safe himself. A moment’s clumsiness traps him inside the iron chamber, and the darkness is broken only by the ominous hum of a drill beginning to bite into steel. As air grows thin and tension mounts, the mechanics’ carefully plotted raid looms ever closer to an unexpected confrontation.
