Ida is a gentle girl who cannot stand to see any creature suffer. When she discovers two boys trying to drown a helpless puppy by the stream, she rushes in, scolds them, and convinces them to hand the trembling animal over to her. Naming the dog Carlo, she comforts him and brings him home, only to learn that her modest family cannot keep the new companion.
A few days later a well‑meaning young lad named Eugene sees Ida’s devotion and offers to take Carlo, promising the pup a kind home. Ida accepts the offer, not for money but for the assurance that her rescued friend will be cared for. As the exchange unfolds, the simple act of compassion begins to circle back, hinting that kindness may find its own quiet reward.

Some of literature’s most enduring voices come to us without a confirmed name. “Anonymous” stands for storytellers whose identities were never recorded, were deliberately concealed, or were lost over time.
