In a moonlit garden where music drifts and shadows play, a melancholy Pierrot confesses a longing for death, his heart heavy from a day spent without Pierrette. He hides among the flowerbeds, tossing stones and blossoms in a nervous attempt to be noticed, while Pierrette, unaware, continues her evening serenade. Their fragile encounter is watched by the mischievous Arlequina, who finds delight in teasing the shy clown, covering his eyes and darting away with playful cruelty.
The tension rises when the bold Arlequim arrives, seeking the same garden’s secrets and confronting Pierrette with an audacious knock on her windows. Pierrette, steadfast and dismissive, rebuffs his advances, turning away in quiet defiance. As misunderstandings mount, the garden becomes a stage for a delicate dance of affection, rivalry, and yearning, leaving listeners eager to hear how these tangled hearts might find harmony.

A restless modernist spirit, this Portuguese writer and artist helped shake up the cultural life of the early 20th century. His work moved easily between literature, painting, drawing, and public art, with a bold, inventive energy that still feels fresh.
