A seasoned thief finds himself stranded on a moonlit stretch of Route 12, his stolen Packard sputtering to a halt far from the night’s last gas station. Inside the car lies a suitcase brimming with thirty thousand dollars, meant for a rendezvous at a remote airfield where his lover, Madge, waits. With the clock ticking toward sunrise, he knows any delay could spell disaster, especially with the law hot on his trail. He decides to turn the broken vehicle into bait, hoping another driver will unwittingly provide the escape he needs.
He hides the suitcase in the brush, shoulders his .38 and flashlight, and watches as a sleek sedan rolls up, its occupants laughing and unaware of the danger lurking nearby. As a second car appears, the tension spikes; the thief must decide whether to confront the strangers or stay hidden, each second bringing the risk of losing both the loot and his freedom. The suspense builds as he steadies his aim, the forest echoing with the low growl of engines and the faint rustle of leaves.
