Travels and Adventures of Monsieur Violet

A young French noble, uprooted by the upheaval of 1830, follows his devoted father and the deposed king on a whirlwind tour of Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Holy Land. From the bustling streets of Rome, where he begins his formal education, to the grand palaces of Prague, the narrator’s early years are marked by constant motion, curiosity, and a lingering longing for a France he can no longer return to.

Amid these travels he encounters the enigmatic Prince Seravalle, a fellow exile whose restless spirit drives him from revolutionary conspiracies in Italy to a distant exile in Mexico. The prince’s journey leads him deep into the American West, where he lives among the Shoshone people and discovers a world far removed from European refinement. Their shared longing for a homeland and the allure of untamed lands set the stage for further adventures that will test loyalty, courage, and the meaning of true belonging.
