Description

A young man on the cusp of adulthood leaves the quiet streets of Bristol, trading his familiar bedroom for the cramped deck of the sloop‑of‑war Heroine. His family’s parting words are a mix of pride, worry, and lingering affection, especially from his sister who weeps as he dons his uniform and straps his sea‑chest. With a half‑pay lieutenant father and a seasoned master’s mate to watch over him, he steps aboard eager to prove himself and to document every moment in a journal for those he loves.

The voyage quickly turns from ceremony to peril as the Heroine brushes past Cape Coast Castle and spots a pirate vessel prowling the waters. A frantic chase up a river leads to a fierce boarding fight, a captured schooner that later explodes, and the daunting task of delivering a prize to the Commodore. Through danger and camaraderie, the fledgling midshipman discovers the harsh realities of naval life and the promise of adventure that lies ahead.
