The four boys of Centerville have earned a reputation as the Outdoor Chums, a tight‑knit crew whose summers are spent tracking wildlife, snapping photos, and testing their skills with gun and line. After years of camping on familiar ridges and even a river voyage to New Orleans, they decide to push farther west, toward the secluded shores of Cabin Point where a glass‑shimmering lake stretches between rolling hills. Their leader, Bluff, has heard whispers of a hidden golden cup buried near an old mine shaft, and the promise of a new hunting ground excites the whole gang.
As the stagecoach rattles up the rocky ridge, the friends joke about the supplies they’ve left at the abandoned shaft and the challenges ahead. The untouched forest beckons with opportunities for trapping raccoons, casting for trout, and capturing night‑time wildlife on film. Yet the mystery of the golden cup adds a thread of suspense, turning a simple camping trip into a hunt for a long‑lost treasure that could change their adventure forever.
