How Freckle Frog Made Herself Pretty

A little girl named Marian receives a beautiful doll named Big Mary, complete with three lovely dresses, a parasol, tiny shoes and a soft white muff. When Marian’s excitement over a new trunk leads her to strip the doll of its clothes, Big Mary falls ill and must be cared for with medicine, fresh air and the very best outfit. Marian learns to treat her cherished companion gently, dressing her in the finest blue‑silk dress and keeping her warm with the precious muff.

Not far away, Freckle Frog lives beneath a rock, feeling plain but dreaming of looking as splendid as Big Mary. Invited to Robin Redbreast’s orchard party, she asks the elegant Morning Glory Ladies for a dress, only to be turned away. A kind black spider overhears her plight and offers to spin a delicate lace she can use for a new outfit, giving Freckle Frog hope that she might finally shine at the celebration.
