Laxdæla Saga

A charismatic chieftain named Ketill Flatnose leads his clan out of a Norway ruled by the overbearing King Harald. Faced with the stark choice of subjugation or exile, Ketill gathers his kin and resolves to seek a new life across the sea, spurred by promises of untamed lands and abundant harvests. The saga opens with his decisive speech, the rallying of his sons, and the bittersweet farewell to a homeland they can no longer call safe.

The family’s journey carries them to the wild coast of Iceland, where they scout a rugged inlet framed by cliffs and a distant island. There, Ketill’s son Bjorn stakes a claim, guided by signs he interprets as destiny, and begins to lay the foundations of a settlement that will bear his name. As they carve homes from the stark landscape, the saga introduces the intricate web of alliances, marriages, and rivalries that will shape their new world.
