In the summer of 1868, a newly appointed army officer takes charge of a remote outpost on the Cimarron Trail, a vital link to Santa Fe across the desert. He decides to invite his spirited daughter to spend her vacation with him, hoping the frontier's rugged charm will offer her an unforgettable adventure. Fresh from school in the East, she arrives with youthful curiosity, eager to see the wide‑open plains and the military life that surrounds the fort.
Soon, however, the quiet routine gives way to unsettling reports from the surrounding territories. Tribes that had once coexisted with the soldiers are now banding together in a wave of aggression, and the once‑busy trail is suddenly plagued by raids and burned stagecoaches. As tension mounts, the small garrison must grapple with the reality of an expanding conflict while Molly learns what life on the edge of civilization truly entails. The story captures both the awe of the untamed West and the looming challenges that test the resolve of those who call it home.
