A weather‑beaten sailor finds himself ashore in Melbourne after years at sea, his only possessions a trusted quadrant, a weather‑worn pea coat and a pipe. Though he’s never tasted rum, the pull of the ocean remains strong, and he wanders the waterfront hoping for a chance to sign on. Spotting a massive clipper, its snowy canvas billowing like a ghostly flag, he learns its name is the “Pirate,” a vessel already whispered about for its brutal captain and the mysterious loss of three crewmen.
Standing at the taffrail, he meets a hulking, almost other‑worldly deckhand whose massive arms and silent stare hint at a life lived in the shadows of the ship. The stranger offers him a place aboard, speaking of dry bilges and a crew that will soon be whole—if the rumors of murder and a missing captain are true. Intrigued yet uneasy, the mate must decide whether the promise of work outweighs the ominous aura surrounding the notorious ship.
