Young Hunters of the Lake; or, Out with Rod and Gun

Four adventurous boys from the small town of Fairview are eager for a summer escapade on the nearby Lake Cameron. With rods, shotguns, and a love of the great outdoors, they plan a lively day of swimming, fishing, and exploring the shoreline, despite a looming rivalry with the local bully, Ham Spink. Their camaraderie and knack for wilderness skills set the stage for a light‑hearted but daring outing.

The boys soon cross paths with an eccentric hermit who lives in a secluded cabin by the water, adding a touch of mystery to their trip. Their quest leads them into a thrilling chase after two bears and a sudden, spine‑tingling encounter that seems straight from a ghost story. As they navigate the challenges of nature and the antics of their rivals, the youngsters discover that true bravery often comes with a splash of humor and a deep respect for the wild.
