Born Amy Catherine Deck in 1849, she wrote under the name Mrs. O. F. Walton and became a widely read English author of Christian children's fiction. She was the daughter of an Anglican clergyman, and after marrying Octavius Frank Walton she spent several years in Jerusalem, an experience often noted in accounts of her life.
Her writing career began in the 1870s, and she went on to publish many stories for young readers. She is especially remembered for A Peep Behind the Scenes, along with other devotional and family-centered books that combine lively storytelling with clear moral purpose.
She died in 1939. Although her style is very much of its time, her best-known books are still remembered for their gentleness, emotional warmth, and sincere religious feeling.
