Born Gertrude Minnie Robins on July 11, 1861, she became widely known to readers as Mrs. Baillie Reynolds after her 1890 marriage to Louis Baillie Reynolds. She was an English writer who produced more than fifty novels and published regularly under both her own name and her married pen name.
Her fiction often blends strong emotional drama with suspense, social intrigue, and mystery. Titles associated with her include The Tree of Knowledge, The Girl from Nowhere, The Daughter Pays, and The Lonely Stronghold, and her work was well enough known that Notorious Miss Lisle was adapted for film in 1920.
