Born in Kentucky in 1876, Hallie Erminie Rives grew up in the American South and became known as a prolific writer whose work reached a wide popular audience in the early 1900s. She published novels, poems, and plays, and several of her best-known books drew on historical settings and big emotional stakes.
Her most recognized novel is Hearts Courageous, and her career also included stage writing as her interests widened from fiction into drama. Contemporary accounts and reference sources describe her as a successful and widely read author during her peak years.
