Description

Born in the rugged hills of Cumberland, the poet’s childhood was steeped in the quiet rhythms of a legal family and the wild beauty of the English countryside. His early schooling led him to Cambridge, where a restless mind soaked up classical learning while the yearning for nature began to stir beneath the scholarly walls. These formative years sowed the seeds of a voice that would later turn ordinary landscapes into timeless verses.

After university, he drifted to bustling London and then to the salons of France, absorbing the ideas of his age and forging friendships that would shape his art. Back in the Lake District, his partnership with a fellow poet sparked the creation of the groundbreaking Lyrical Ballads, a work that married plain speech with profound feeling. Settling in Grasmere, he found the tranquil lakes and pastoral life that became the heartbeat of his poetry, inviting listeners to hear the world through his reverent, reflective eyes.

F. W. H. (Frederic William Henry) Myers

1843–1901

A gifted Victorian writer who moved easily between poetry, classical scholarship, and big questions about the mind, he is best remembered today for helping found the Society for Psychical Research. His work joined literary grace with a serious curiosity about consciousness, personality, and what might lie beyond ordinary experience.
