CHAPTER IX. SQUIRE SIMON COMES BACK TO OAKENHAM. THE EARL MARSHAL TAKEN TO KING IN OAKENREALM.
In the green of Oakenrealm, a kingdom where trees loom so close a squirrel could travel from branch to branch without ever touching the ground, lives a fierce warrior‑king whose life has been shaped by sword and shield. When he falls in love with a captured noblewoman, he abandons his armor for a year, then is called to lead his people against invading kings. The battle leaves him mortally wounded, and his queen dies in childbirth, leaving a newborn son as the realm’s sole heir. The infant is christened Christopher, his tiny hand raised in the shadow of a throne that belongs to him by birth.
Because a child cannot rule, the king’s trusted marshal, Rolf, steps in as regent, pledging to safeguard the realm until Christopher comes of age. Under Rolf’s stern but fair hand, Oakenrealm enjoys an uneasy peace, while courtiers and common folk watch the young king’s future with a mixture of hope and uncertainty. Listeners will be drawn into a world of ancient forests, chivalric duty, and the fragile promise of a new lineage just beginning to awaken.

A central figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, this Victorian writer and designer brought the same love of beauty and workmanship to poems, stories, textiles, and books. His imagination helped shape modern fantasy, while his ideas about art and labor still feel strikingly modern.
